(KSL News) Salt Lake County is buying hundreds of acres of land and making it off-limits to developers.
The $8.7-million deal includes the purchase of 1,700 acres of Rose Canyon Ranch in southwest Salt Lake County. That land will be added to the 800 acre Yellow Fork Park already owned by the county.
County officials will take care of the land in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management.
County officials say it's getting harder to find open space to purchase in the area. And finding something this big is almost unheard of.
