TOOELE, Utah (AP) -- A former third-grade teacher who pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual abuse of a child for inappropriately touching students has been sentenced to between eight years and a maximum 30 years in prison.
Christopher Burton, 26, was sentenced Friday in 3rd District Court.
In an August plea agreement, Burton pleaded guilty to the eight second-degree felony counts, reduced from eight first-degree felony charges, which carry a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Court documents said Burton was accused of fondling eight East Elementary School students between Aug. 21, 2006, and March 30.
Judge Mark Kouris said he would send a letter to the state Board of Pardons and Parole asking that Burton serve every day of the 30-year sentence.
