PROVO — After months of speculation, the wait is finally over. The announcement came that construction on the Provo City Center Temple will start in a few weeks.
After the Provo Tabernacle burned to the ground and was announced to be rebuilt as a temple, many have waited in anticipation, speculating about construction plans. According to a release by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, construction on the new Provo Temple will begin after a groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, May 12 at 9 a.m.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve apostles will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony. Tickets will be required to attend the ceremony, but will be made available through local church leaders within the new temple district. The ceremony will also be broadcast to LDS stake centers around the Provo area.
The construction of the Provo City Center Temple will be the second temple in Provo, making it one of two cities in the world with two LDS temples.
The current temple in Provo is considered to be one of the most heavily used temples in the LDS church, and many locals are excited to see the downtown Provo project completed.
Another exciting temple project that has recently been completed is the Kansas City Temple, making it the 137th operating LDS temple in the world. The open house will begin Saturday, April 7 and continue through April 28. It will be formally dedicated by President Thomas S. Monson on Sunday, May 6 and will be broadcast to congregations of the church within the temple district.
