PROVO — Police made three arrests Thursday following the assault of an officer during a traffic stop.
According to police, an officer pulled over Jeffery Richmond, 32, for traffic violations at 11 a.m. Thursday. After the stop, Richmond allegedly put the Toyota Camry in reverse and rammed the police car, according to reports. He then led the police on a pursuit.
One passenger, Julian Gutierrez, 30, is believed to have exited the suspect's vehicle around 4000 W. and Center Street. Richmond and a second passenger, Haylee Viles, 26, continued to flee.
Richmond stopped the vehicle on a dirt road near Amelia Earhart School and fled on foot. The school was in lockdown Thursday until the situation was resolved.
Viles remained with the vehicle until officers arrived and took her into custody. Viles was booked into the Utah County Jail for possession of another's ID and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Richmond at one point attempted to force entry into a residence by kicking in a door, but failed, at which point officers located and arrested him. He was booked for aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and avoiding arrest.
Gutierrez was found at 2500 W. Center Street around 2:30 p.m. and was booked for possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia and failing to respond to officers.
