SALT LAKE CITY — A Spanish Fork man was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday for allegedly preparing false income tax returns that resulted in refunds totaling more than $875,000.
Stanley Wardle was indicted on nine counts of filing false claims for income tax refunds, the Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service said in a news release. According to the indictment, Wardle prepared one false claim for himself for an individual income tax return in 2008, and eight other false claims for others which added up to $875,218 in false federal income tax refunds.
If Wardle is convicted, he would face a maximum of five years in prison and a maximum $250,000 fine for each count he is convicted of.
