OGDEN -- As authorities sort out the details of how that tragedy came to be, communities near and far are still mourning the deaths of Charlie and Braden Powell.
Thursday afternoon, Ogden residents gathered to remember the Powell boys with a special symbol of hope - a toy pinwheel.
Some 400 of the blue and silver child's toys were distributed among approximately 100 attendees at the vigil.
They did not know Susan Cox Powell, Josh Powell or Charlie and Braden, but nevertheless, they came to mourn and to speak out against child abuse.

The event was put on by the Prevent Child Abuse Utah, a foundation dedicated education and raising funds for the elimination of child abuse in all its forms. The pinwheel has become a potent symbol of the bright future all children ought to have.
A memory book was also brought to the event by friends of Susan Powell, and many of those in attendance could be seen writing messages in it.
The event ended at about 4:30 p.m., but dozens waited in order to be able to sign the book, which was brought late, and give their condolences to the Cox and Powell families.
The family will take the memory book to Saturday's funeral for Charlie and Braden, as a show of support and a commemoration of the innocence lost in the tragic events in Washington.
