AMERICAN FORK — Utah County prosecutors want a man charged with murder in the 2009 death of a Brigham Young University professor to face the death penalty.

Martin Cameron Bond has pleaded not guilty to capital murder and aggravated kidnapping, burglary and robbery charges in the death of Kay Mortensen.

Mortensen was found dead in the bathtub of his Payson home with his throat slit on Nov. 16, 2009.

Court records show prosecutors filed a notice of their intention to seek the death penalty in 4th District Court in American Fork on Tuesday.

A message left for Bond's defense attorney, Ron Yengich, was not immediately returned Wednesday.

A hearing is set for Dec. 13.

Co-defendant Benjamin Rettig has already pleaded guilty to Mortensen's murder, but is trying to withdraw his plea.
