(KSL News) -- A recent study listed cheerleading as the third most dangerous sport in the nation, but a local cheer group is safely reaching new heights.
Meet the Young All-Stars. These 12-year old girls train in Alpine and focus on making cheer a safe sport. And it pays off. They just took second place at a national cheerleading competition and all team members are injury-free.
Carly Beckstead & Alexis Gifford, Cheerleaders: "It's just scary ‘cause you know you have to learn to trust your bases. If you don't, you can fall and get hurt. You can fall.
Shelley Liljenquist, Cheer Coach: "They can also learn to be very, very meticulous, in safety, in following rules, and in really learning how to do something properly, step by step."
The group was recognized for their difficult stunting ability at such a young age.
