WEST VALLEY CITY — A pair of doped up men passed out in a car with stolen jewelry belonging to one of the man's grandmothers and proved an easy catch for police.

An arrest warrant filed in 3rd District Court Tuesday said it was hard for the officer to miss the two — especially since their car was parked five feet short of the parking stall in an apartment complex.

The officer was on routine patrol on Sept. 10 in the area of the Emerald Court Apartments because of a pattern of vehicle thefts and burglaries in the neighborhood. A car parked short of a marked parking stall caught the officer's attention.

Two men in their early 20s were discovered inside the car passed out amid burnt tin foil, police said. A subsequent search revealed more foil and syringes — items commonly used for the administration of illicit drugs.

The search also revealed two watches and a small bag that contained multiple pieces of jewelry. One of the men told the officer he had his grandmother's items and knew they were stolen. He faces theft and drug-related charges.
