EAST MILLCREEK — While most home burglars typically wait until the occupants of a house are gone before robbing them, police are warning residents about a new twist.
In the past month, a woman has been knocking on doors, claiming to be a locked out neighbor or a relative of a neighbor and asking to use the bathroom.
Once she gets into the bathroom, she sneaks into other rooms and steals property ranging from prescription medications to cash, IDs, jewelry or anything she can fit in her pockets, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

The first burglary took place at the beginning of September and four other incidents have all occurred within the past week or two, he said. The woman has tried committing her scam at all hours of the day and as late as 9 p.m., Hoyal said. The majority of the burglaries have happened at homes in the East Millcreek area east of 2300 East.
The woman is described as white, between 5 feet and 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 100 pounds, in her early 50s with red or reddish-brown hair.
Some victims have reported they thought something might be up when the woman took an exceptionally long time in the bathroom, Hoyal said. Some even watched her come out of a different room other than the bathroom and then quickly go out the door.
