SALT LAKE CITY — A 39-year-old Murray man is facing felony charges after stealing a gun locker containing several weapons and a coin collection worth $100,000.
The safe was reported missing by its owner and police were able to track down the suspect — who has been charged with theft by receiving stolen property, a second-degree felony — through people who either purchased coins or saw the large collection, according to charges filed in 3rd District Court Tuesday.
Police served a search warrant on the Murray man's storage shed and found two duffel bags full of coins that matched the description of those that were stolen. One of the coins was in a book containing the name of the mother of the man from whom the coins were stolen, the charges state.
