PROVO - Utah showed up ready to play as the Utes and Cougars met up in week three for their first non-conference game. Utah dominated all areas of the game and the turnover battle resulting in a 54-10 victory.
Here are the top performers of the game:
Jordan Wynn
Jordan Wynn led his Ute's to a victory against the Cougars. Wynn threw for 232-yards and was 16/28. He was able to find open receivers and capitalize on turn over's. Wynn made big plays and gave his team confidence, which lead to a Utah victory.
Jake Murphy
Wynn connected with Jake Murphy in the last Utah offensive drive of the half. Wynn went to Murphy three times in a row; the third reception was a 30-yard touchdown pass, giving the Ute's the lead and the momentum as the first half ended.
Cody Hoffman
If BYU had a top performer it would be Cody Hoffman. He had eight reception for 138-yards. In the first half Hoffman seemed to be a token of hope. He came down with some wild throws and picked up key yards after the catch resulting in BYU first down's. Hoffman's performance was not enough for the Cougars to come away with a victory
Utah Offensive line
The Utes' offensive line had a big night. The line seemed to completely contain BYU's pass rush, allowing Wynn all the time he needed to complete big passes and find open receivers. In the second half the line provided huge holes allowing the backs to grab big yards and keep drives alive.
Norm Chow
Norm Chow really is an offensive genius. BYU's defense looked good in the first quarter. They were holding Utah and seemed to be in the game despite turning the ball over on all but one possession in the quarter, however Chow saw the weakness. BYU was over committing to every expected play. Chow drew up some plays with misdirection and the Utah offense was able to move the ball. The reverse that resulted in key yards is just one example of those plays, BYU's defense slowed there pass rush and seemed to struggle on defense from that point on.
