PROVO - Utah dominated BYU as the two teams matched up for the first time as non-conference opponents. Utah took every opportunity to put points on the board as the Utes rolled the Cougars 54-10.

Turnovers

The rivalry game had a total of nine turnovers. BYU struggled to hold onto the ball, resulting in six fumbles and one interception. The Cougars gave up two fumbles on the goal line resulting in an easy 14 points for the Ute's

Special teams

Special teams played a big role in the game. BYU made bad decisions when returning kicks, they also had a kickoff go out of bounds. Utah made key plays on special teams putting BYU deep in their own territory. The Ute's also managed to make key plays, allowing Utah to start their drives with great field possession, resulting in more Utah points.

Utah's offense

Utah's offensive line won the war in the trenches. They provided adequate protection for Wynn through out the game allowing him to connect with open receivers. They also created running opportunities and managed to keep the BYU pass rush at bay.

BYU's Offensive Struggles

BYU failed to stay in the game because of turnovers and the inability to keep key drives alive. Heaps could not seem to find open receivers, the running game was poor and the offensive line struggled to stop the pass rush through out the game.

Lack of Discipline

BYU looked completely undisciplined. The Cougar's had 7 turnover's and a hand full of unnecessary penalties. There also seems to be a disconnect between Jake Heaps and Brandon Doman the offensive coordinator. Heaps seemed unaware of the routes his receivers were running or he was just unable to deliver the ball to his receivers. The Cougar defense seemed to completely give up in the fourth quarter, while the Ute's ran away with an easy victory.
