HOLLADAY -- Every September, the Carmelite nuns of Holladay hold a fair to raise money for their yearly expenses.

Volunteers help unload the goods that women in their Latter-day Saint ward have been making and gathering for months. They delivered donations again this year, as they have for many years, to the monastery to help the Carmelite nuns raise money at their annual fair. What they make selling the donations pays for food and expenses.

"I really like doing it, it gives me a good feeling. We really love the nuns, we love having them here," said Olivia Kirk of the Holladay South Stake.

Judy Bourne greeted Reverend Mother Maurine. They represent two groups of women of faith who never see each other because the nuns are cloistered. They leave the monastery only for medical treatment and they only see family members through a grille inside.

"We love these people, it makes us very happy and what a privilege to be able to serve them," said Judy Bourne of the Holladay South Stake.

"Maybe we were not aware of it other years, but it's overwhelming what they have brought this evening, I must say," said Rev. Mother Maurine of the Carmelite Monastery.

"It's the way the world is supposed to be and the people here in Holladay are a real shining example of just working together and caring about each other," said Barbara Stilinovich a Catholic Community volunteer.

They may not visit face-to-face but all of this speaks of a desire to reach out and connect, heart-to-heart.
