(KSL News) A man accused of drowning his girlfriend in a bathtub is scheduled to be in court today to change his plea.

Police say Walter Smith confessed to drowning his girlfriend, Nicole Speirs, of Tooele, in March 2006.

People who know Smith say he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the time he served in Iraq.

Earlier this year, mental evaluations cleared the way for him to stand trial.
