The Great Escape

KSL's morning news team hit the road to show how much Utah has to offer. We spent as much time as we could traveling the state to find things Utahns may want to see and do, especially as summer approaches.

For the "Great Escape," we divided the state into four sections, right down county lines.

Northwest

• Outdoor artwork, recreation highlight NW Utah
  Our month-long look at gorgeous sites and fun recreational opportunities winds up in northwestern Utah. We visited a place so flat you can see the earth's curvature, stopped by a popular reservoir, and saw some famous outdoor artwork.
• Tooele County: Miller Sportspark, scuba diving with sharks
  The Miller Motorsports Park features one of the premier outdoor motorcycle and car racing tracks in the nation. Many spectators don't realize that they can join in on the action.
• Railroad history reenacted at Golden Spike
  The Golden Spike National Historic Site is a great place for history buffs or anyone who loves trains.
• Logan: Arts capital of northwestern Utah
  You may not think of Logan as an arts capital, but people come from all over the world to see opera and theater there.
• Viewers recommend best restaurants in northwestern Utah
  Which hometown restaurants in northwestern Utah are the best? For our travel series "The Great Escape," we asked Facebook users for recommendations.

Southeast

• Great Escape: Southeastern Utah's spectacular scenery
  Some of the most spectacular scenery in the world is found in southeastern Utah.
• Moab offers variety for outdoors enthusiasts
  If you want to see a couple of national parks, do some mountain biking, hiking, or serious rock climbing or rock crawling all in a couple of days, Moab may be the place to visit.

Southwest

• The Great Escape goes to southwestern Utah
  Week two of our "Great Escape" takes us to the southwestern part of Utah, where we begin at one of the premiere sand dunes in the nation -- the Little Sahara Recreation Area.
• Search for gems, fossils draws families to west desert
  You may think there's not much to see in Utah's west desert, but actually it's a great place to find stones, gems and fossils. People come from all over the world to "rockhound" here.
• St. George highlights include Tuacahn, spas
  Last year the Tuacahn Amphitheatre debuted the only off-Broadway production of "Tarzan." It was so successful that this year the theater will be one of only three to perform Disney's "The Little Mermaid."
• Top stops: Cluff's Carhop and Cache Valley Cheese
  We asked viewers on Facebook to recommend small-town businesses and restaurants found throughout the state. Many mentioned Cluff's Carhop Cafe in Fillmore and Cache Valley Cheese in Beaver.

Northeast

• Northeastern Utah's outdoor adventure
  Dust off the tent and the sleeping bag, clean out the boat and get new laces for those hiking boots because the northeast is all about the outdoors.
• Dinosaur National Monument offers window to the past
  When we visited Dinosaur National Monument, we planned to spend a couple of hours. Instead, we emerged seven hours later having just scratched the surface of this 210,000 acre window to the past.
