SPRINGVILLE -- A group of brave souls welcomed 2011 by taking a very cold swim.

For 12 years, those who can work up the guts gather at Gary Price's backyard pond in Springville to take a freezing dip. Family, friends, friends of friends and anyone else who likes to celebrate the arrival of the New Year in a different way came out Saturday.

And they certainly paid for it.

"Painful! It's so cold," said Eric Beaudoin of Mapleton. "Every year I actually wonder why I do this, and I can never come up with a good answer, but I always do it anyway."

Jumping into the water wasn't the worst part though -- it was getting out and being all wet in the very frigid air.
