(KSL News) -- Time and time again Utah proves it is a pretty healthy place. The latest evidence is in Self Magazine.

The women's health magazine ranked the Salt Lake area as the 21st healthiest place in America. The magazine considered things like crime rates, death rates, disease and obesity rates, the environment and even the weather.

But while Salt Lake's rank did place it in the top 25 percentile, there are reason's it didn't rank higher.

Magazine Ranks SLC As 21st Healthiest City

Sara Austin, News Director/Self Magazine: "There were some issues with access to healthcare in Utah. The percent of women getting mammograms is far below average. Also the suicide rate was way above average and that was kind of surprising. "

Salt Lake did, however, rank third in the Healthiest Heart category. Women are 45-percent less likely to die from heart disease. And it has the list's lowest cancer death rate.

Salt Lake also ranks second for Least Smoky -- 86-percent of residents don't smoke.

America's Healthiest Places

    1. Nassau- Suffolk Counties, NY
    1. San Jose, Calif.
    1. Orange County, Calif.
    1. Burlington, Vt.
    1. San Francisco, Calif.

The healthiest place: Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York. California placed three areas in the top 5.
