OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Ogden is demolishing more homes to make way for a riverfront development.
A track hoe clawed at homes Wednesday as neighbors cheered. They say the vacant houses have been drawing transients.
Crews set out to demolish five homes Wednesday, adding to four that have already been leveled.
The city's community development manager, Jonny Ballard, says 35 more homes will be torn down over the next six weeks.
The city is paying $545,000 for the demolitions and hopes to recover the money through liens or a swap of land for parks with Ogden Riverfront Development, the company planning new retail buildings and townhouses along the Ogden River.
