(KSL News) The state tonight honored its first class of Utah Scholars. These are kids who didn't slack off during their senior year but have taken a rigorous core of classes to prepare for college.

Assistant Secretary of Education Troy Justesen told them why schooling is so important. "Many young people in this country will have jobs you and I know nothing about."

The Utah Scholars program is enrolling students throughout the state, beginning in the 8th grade.
