Whit Johnson ReportingSt. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake was locked down Saturday evening after a man with a gun entered the building.

The hospital, located at 39th South 13th East, was locked down for about an hour or so, but that has been lifted.

We are still waiting for details from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office. But a nursing supervisor told us that before 9:00 p.m., a man walked into the emergency room threatening to commit suicide. Hospital staff took him into a triage room. The man got upset, reached into a box that he was carrying with him, and pulled out a small gun.

A nurse acted quickly, slamming the door with the man inside the room, essentially locking him in.

Several deputies are usually on duty at St. Marks. One of them was able to approach the room and talk to the man through the door. The man came out of the room peacefully and was taken into custody. We're not sure where he will go from here.
