DRAPER -- Cutting prices around holidays is common for furniture stores, but Envy Furniture in Draper wasn't planning on slashing them the Monday after Pioneer Day. It was a man in a feathered cap that took matters into his own hands.
Envy Furniture co-owner Jake Seethaler heard the door open around 8:00 Monday morning, then heard papers rustling downstairs in the showroom.
"I'd found the commotion that had gone on for the past three to five minutes was him cutting up price tags," Seethaler said.
He asked the man if he could help him with anything.
"He says to me, ‘No, I'm with the "We the People Corporation" and I'm here slashing prices,'" Seethaler said.
The man managed to clip a couple more tags before Seethaler made it all the way down the stairs. Then, the man took off on foot.
"We laughed about it, actually, before we called the police," Seethaler said. "It was just too hilarious."
Draper police Sgt. Chad Carpenter says 45-year-old Shane Johnson didn't end his mischief there; he was later arrested after stealing sunglasses from the Common Cents convenience store at the corner of Bangerter Highway and 200 West.
Johnson was booked on retail theft and disorderly conduct. Police say they aren't sure what led Johnson to the spree.
