(KSL News) What started as a traffic stop turned into a dangerous crash overnight, when the driver decided to run from police.
Sgt. Steve Woolridge/Salt Lake City Police: "In this neighborhood, this time of night, unfortunately there are individuals who are out to cause problems."
Officers with the Metro Gang Unit tried to pull over the driver of a red car for a traffic violation. The driver stopped, but when an officer approached, he hit the gas, speeding through a red light.
The man crashed into a fence and took off. Salt Lake City police responded and found a woman in the passenger seat. It turns out she was wanted.
The car was borrowed and police are hoping the owner will help them track down the driver.
