SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah man accused of killing a couple during a two-state crime spree with his girlfriend is pleading not guilty in a case that could carry the death penalty.

Court records show 29-year-old Logan Welles McFarland entered the pleas Monday to aggravated murder and other charges.

Prosecutors say he killed the husband and wife in 2011 before shooting a woman in the head while trying to steal her car in West Wendover, Nevada.

McFarland was extradited last year from Nevada, where he was serving up to 56 years in prison for six felonies including kidnapping and car theft.

McFarland's ex-girlfriend is facing burglary charges in Utah and has also pleaded not guilty. She testified against McFarland in Nevada.
