SPRINGFIELD, N.J. (AP) — The first round of the PGA Championship continues in Springfield, New Jersey. The early clubhouse lead is held by Jimmy Walker, who opened with a 5-under 65. Rickie Fowler and defending champion Jason Day are at 2-under while Phil Mickelson shot a first-round 2-over 72.

CHICAGO (AP) — Chris Sale of the White Sox returns to the mound tonight after serving a five-day suspension for cutting up several team throwback jerseys last Saturday. He didn't like the way the 1976 jerseys fit so, he took out a pair of scissors. The Sox are in Chicago tonight to face the cross-town Cubs.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Jets and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick have signed off on a one-year contract. The deal is reportedly worth $12 million and is guaranteed. Fitzpatrick was a free agent who was locked in a contract stalemate with the Jets since free agency began in March.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Right after the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Championship, Richard Jefferson announced his retirement. After hearing thousands of fans cheer for him to return to the team next season, Jefferson announced a change of plans and the club has now announced his signing to a two-year deal. Jefferson joined the team this season and was a key factor off the bench.

UNDATED (AP) — The organizers behind the college football playoff system have announced that starting with the 2018 season there won't be any more weekday semifinal games. The reason behind the move is low TV ratings and it means games will be played either on a Saturday or a holiday.
