UNDATED (AP) — Oklahoma and Notre Dame are standing in the way of Alabama-Clemson Part IV. The College Football Playoff semifinals are Saturday, with the top-ranked Crimson Tide facing No. 4 Oklahoma at the Orange Bowl in South Florida and No. 2 Clemson playing No. 3 Notre Dame at the Cotton Bowl in North Texas.
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Nick Saban knows Alabama cannot win every game. The Crimson Tide merely come close. This is the fifth year of the College Football Playoff, and the fifth Alabama appearance in the four-team tournament to decide the national champion. The latest quest toward another title, which would be the school's third in the last four years, resumes Saturday when the top-ranked Crimson Tide (13-0) take on fourth-ranked Oklahoma (12-1) in the semifinals at the Orange Bowl.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Jarrett Stidham threw for 373 yards and five touchdowns in his final college game, and Auburn routed Purdue 63-14 in the Music City Bowl. Auburn scored the most points by a Southeastern Conference team in a bowl, topping Alabama's 61-6 win over Syracuse in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 1953. The Tigers had a chance to match the most points ever scored in a bowl at 70, but they took a knee at the Purdue 1 with 61 seconds left.
ATLANTA (AP) — A Peach Bowl game against Michigan provides Florida coach Dan Mullen with the perfect way to cap a comeback season for the Gators. The Gators have rebounded from a 4-7 finish last season to win nine games in Mullen's first season. But Florida is 0-4 against Michigan, including a loss in the 2017 opener.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Jake Bentley threw for 510 yards and five touchdowns against the Clemson Tigers last month, so don't expect the South Carolina quarterback to be afraid of anyone even if his best wide receiver won't be playing against Virginia in the Belk Bowl. Bentley says South Carolina's offense has a "never scared mentality." Gamecocks receiver Deebo Samuel won't play after deciding to begin preparations for the NFL draft rather than risk injury in the Belk Bowl.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Naz Reid had 19 points and 12 rebounds as LSU defeated Louisiana-Monroe 81-69 in a nonconference game. Reid, who was 7-of-10 shooting from the field, registered his first double-double of the season and his 12 rebounds were a season-high. Four other players scored in double figures for the Tigers (10-3).
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Rennia Davis had 20 points and 13 rebounds as No. 10 Tennessee capitalized on its rebounding dominance to breeze to a 98-77 victory over Murray State. Davis was one of seven Lady Volunteers to score in double figures as Tennessee shot a season-best 50.6 percent and withstood a season-high 23 turnovers. Tennessee outrebounded Murray State 56-24.
