PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Located inside the Washington State football complex is a glass enclosure where the Apple Cup trophy resides when it's in the possession of the crimson and gray. It's been five years since the trophy has called Pullman home. Reclaiming ownership on Friday when No. 7 Washington State hosts No. 16 Washington would add a chapter to a season already unlike no other in the Cougars' history. A year that began with tragedy could end with unexpected triumph if the Cougars win.

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas (AP) — Sean McDermott scored 21 points by tying the tournament record of seven 3-pointers, part of Butler's Atlantis-record 16 made 3s in an 84-53 win against Middle Tennessee in the consolation bracket at the Battle 4 Atlantis. McDermott's seven 3s tied a record set by Wisconsin's D'Mitrik Trice against Oklahoma earlier Thursday. James Hawthorne scored 11 points to lead Middle Tennessee, which shot 32 percent.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Cassius Winston had 19 points and seven assists to help Michigan State cruise past UCLA 87-67 to reach the final of the Las Vegas Invitational. Nick Ward scored 16 points, Joshua Langford had 14 and Josh McQuaid had 11 for Michigan State. The Spartans will play Texas in the championship game Friday. The Bruins take on No. 7 North Carolina in the consolation game. Texas stunned the Tar Heels earlier Thursday, 92-89.

UNDATED (AP) — The 111th version of the Apple Cup has huge implications when No. 16 Washington plays at No. 7 Washington State. The winner will clinch the Pac-12 North and the Cougars still have an outside shot of making the College Football Playoff.

UNDATED (AP) — Jonathan Smith played in four Civil War games as quarterback for Oregon State. Now he'll experience his first as the Beavers' coach when Oregon State plays Oregon in the 122nd edition of the rivalry. Nothing is at stake for the Beavers in this one, but it would mean statewide bragging rights.

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Brocke Stepteau scored a career-high 24 points to lead Hawaii to a 90-79 win over Utah in the first round of the Wooden Legacy. Eddie Stansberry scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half for the Rainbow Warriors (4-1).

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Destiny Slocum and Mikayla Pivec scored 18 points apiece, Katie McWilliams added 17 and No. 9 Oregon State beat Western Kentucky 74-60 in the opening game of the Vancouver Showcase for both teams. Oregon State will play No. 13 South Carolina in the semifinals Friday.
