Blowouts galore as Ohio State, Michigan and Tennessee coast in bowl games...Habs beat B's outside

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Ezekiel Elliott ran for 149 yards and matched a Fiesta Bowl record with four touchdowns to spark No. 7 Ohio State's prolific offense in a 44-28 win over eighth-ranked Notre Dame. Elliott scored on three short runs in the first half and added a 47-yard score to open the second in his final game for the Buckeyes. OSU rolled up 496 yards of total offense and finished with a 12-1 record while dropping the Fighting Irish to 10-3.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Michigan has earned an easy win at the Citrus Bowl as Jake Rudock (ROO'-dahk) threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns in the 17th-ranked Wolverines' 41-7 victory over No. 19 Florida. Michigan had three touchdown drives of at least 70 yards and finished with 503 yards of offense against a Florida defense that ranked sixth nationally entering the game. Michigan built on its 17-7 halftime lead by allowing just 28 total yards in the second half.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Joshua Dobbs threw for 166 yards and ran for two touchdowns to lead Tennessee's 45-6 rout of 12th-ranked Northwestern in the Outback Bowl. Dobbs scored on runs 14 and 18 yards, while Jalen Hurd rushed for 130 yards and one TD for the Volunteers. The Vols finish 9-4, while the Wildcats end up 10-3.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Paul Byron scored twice and the Montreal Canadiens regained the Atlantic Division lead by winning the NHL Winter Classic, 5-1 over the Boston Bruins at Foxborough, Massachusetts. Brendan Gallagher picked up a goal and an assist in his return to the Canadiens' lineup after missing 17 straight games with two broken fingers. Former University of Vermont netminder Mike Condon handled 27 shots to help Montreal win for just the third time in their last 14 games.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Panthers executive VP and general manager Dale Tallon has received a contract extension after building the team into a playoff contender. Tallon was a finalist for the NHL's Executive of the Year award in 2012 after putting together a roster that won the franchise's first division title. Last season, the team went from a 66-point team the previous year to a 91-point club that challenged for a playoff spot until the season's final days.
