Mac is back for another four seasons! Weber State University head football coach, Ron McBride, has accepted a new four-year contract to coach the Wildcats through the 2012 season. The announcement was made on Wednesday afternoon by WSU Athletic Director Jerry Graybeal.
"Coach McBride has accepted an offer by Weber State University to remain as the head football coach through the 2012 season," said Graybeal. "This allows Coach Mac, his staff and program to continue to build upon the academic and athletic success they have achieved this season. It brings continuity to the program and helps solidify the foundation which he and his staff have laid the last four seasons. With recruiting season in full swing, it sends a message to prospective student-athletes that the program is going in a positive direction and that we have full confidence that Coach McBride and his staff will have continued success."
Graybeal did not disclose the agreement of the contract, only to say it was a four year deal.McBride is in the fourth year of his original contract signed in December of 2004. He is 23-20 overall at WSU and 17-12 in Big Sky Conference regular season games. The Wildcats are currently 8-2 overall this season and ranked 9th/10th in the major polls. WSU is sitting on top of the Big Sky Conference standings with a 6-0 mark.
"I think it is a very fair contract and I am very pleased with the way it reads," said McBride. "I think the university was fair on its part. It's good for my assistants, good for me and hopefully good for my team. We feel the program is in good shape. It will be important what kind of class we can bring this year because we have some good young players here who have built a solid foundation and we now need to start building upward and make it even better."
The Wildcats have two remaining games in the 2008 regular season with a road contest this Saturday (Nov. 8) at Idaho State, and a home game on Saturday, November 22 vs. Eastern Washington.
