Okay, to put to rest our little discussion of the last few days, here's a couple of notes:

BYU has revised its game book from Saturday's UCLA game, giving Jan Jorgensen and the team credit for Jorgensen's sack of Kevin Craft, resulting in a loss of 6 yards. For the season, Jorgensen has 2 sacks. For his career, Jorgensen now has 20 sacks, one half sack away from tying the MWC career record, held by New Mexico's Michael Tuohy. Jorgensen is tied for 7th alltime at BYU, with Brady Poppinga. Next up is Shawn Knight, with 22.5.

Meantime, Ralph Sokolowsky has been researching the "consecutive games without a sack allowed" records at BYU, since BYU has gone at least two straight games without allowing a sack to start the season. Here's what he has found, after going down to BYU and digging through old game books--

1. Some teams started adding "sacks" as a category as early as 1978.

2. The earliest he could find sack stats for every game was 1982.

3. In 1983 BYU did not allow a sack in 2 consecutive games against Wyoming and New Mexico. That remains the verifiable record before this season.

4. If is is decided that a sack was allowed against UNI then the record sent in 1983 is already tied, but could be broken against Wyoming on Saturday (if the UNI stats remain as recorded, then BYU already has established a school record for consecutive games without a sack allowed--albeit with an asterisk, since an error was made in scoring UNI's sack of Max Hall).
