ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) — Croatia's president has scheduled early parliamentary elections for Sept. 11.
President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic scheduled the election date Saturday, a day after the decision to dissolve Parliament formally came into effect.
Croatia's center-right government fell last month in a no-confidence vote amid a political deadlock triggered by a dispute within the ruling conservative coalition..
The political instability has stalled the economic reforms in the country that joined the European Union in 2013 following years of crisis during the Balkan wars of the 1990s'.
Croatia was one of the six republics in the former Yugoslav federation. It fought a 1991-95 war for independence that claimed some 10,000 lives and ravaged the economy.
