Amanda weakens in Pacific, poses no threat to land

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Amanda weakened more Wednesday after being downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm, and posed no threat to land far off Mexico's Pacific coast.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said the storm's maximum sustained winds were about 45 mph (75 kph) on Wednesday night and should continue to weaken. It was expected to become a tropical depression Thursday.

The storm was centered about 465 miles (750 kilometers) south-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula and was moving northeast at near 6 mph (9 kph).
