BIG SPRINGS, Neb. (AP) — Students at South Platte Public School in Big Springs get to put off the start of a new school year another week, thanks to construction work.
North Platte television station KNOP reports (http://bit.ly/2aN5vxw ) that Superintendent David Spencer made the announcement this week. He says officials always knew that the extensive renovations could push back the start of school this year.
The renovations focus on getting the 50-year-old building up to the latest safety codes, including new lighting, sprinkler systems and fire alarms. The renovations will also add a new section to the school that will have a locker room, classroom, and library.
Spencer says the missed days will likely have to be made up in the spring.
Classes are now set to start on Aug. 25.
