Hastings library raises $400 selling chunks of staircase

HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) — The Hastings Public Library raised nearly $400 for a renovation project by selling chunks of an old staircase at a weekend farmers market.

The Hastings Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/29rzTAw ) that about 40 randomly sized pieces were sold on Saturday.

Prices ranged from $5 for a small piece to $20 for a big piece. Collections librarian Jake Rundle says the library allowed some wiggle room for negotiation, especially for people who bought more than one piece. More pieces will be sold at the next farmers market if some are still available.

All of the money raised went back into the fundraising for the building project. Rundle says he was told some pieces would be used for rock gardens and coasters.
