TOOELE, Utah (AP) — Family and friends are mourning after a 5-year-old boy on a bicycle was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Tooele.

Police say Giacomo Kelly and his sister had a rapport with the driver and were riding their bikes alongside the truck when the accident occurred Friday afternoon.

But investigators say Kelly rode into the side of the truck as it turned right and was dragged under the truck's rear wheels. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the truck driver assumed the boy would make the turn on a sidewalk and did not have any opportunity to react.
