Allegheny County measles case a false alarm

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Allegheny County health officials say a report of a second case of measles within the last month was a false alarm.

Officials say the unidentified person had symptoms similar to measles, but a test by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was negative.

Most people aren't at risk because they've been vaccinated, but some groups are more susceptible, including people who haven't been vaccinated, those born after 1957 and those with compromised immune systems.

Two other cases of measles were reported in Allegheny County earlier this year. The Health Department is still recommending that people make sure they are protected by receiving a two-dose vaccination.

Nationally, about 189 people had measles last year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
