2 children removed from home following seizure of 16 pets

FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (AP) — Two children have been taken into protective custody following the seizure of 16 pets in their home on Wednesday.

WLBT/WDBD-TV (http://bit.ly/1yTYHqY) reports the children were living in what law enforcement officials describe as dangerous and unsanitary conditions at their mobile home on J.L. Williams Road in Forrest County.

Forrest County Sheriff's deputies, along with Southern Pines Animal Shelter representatives, seized the dogs and cats from the property before the children, ages 11 and 13, were removed.

The shelter says the pets were not malnourished, but did show other signs of neglect. They are being evaluated by the shelter.

Authorities say they also found two dead cats in the home and discovered several sets of burned animal bones in a backyard barrel.

No charges have been filed yet.
