5 cheap, designer-approved spring decor ideas

Spring decor doesn't have to empty out your bank account.

Lighter, brighter and inspired by all the happy changes swirling around. Designer Melissa Reynolds shared five ideas for bringing spring into your home on a budget. “It’s like we’re coming awake from the sadness of winter,” she said. “One simple swap can make a really big impact.”

Bring in Flowers & Greenery 

Nothing says spring like flowers, and Reynolds said there’s a reason for that. “It’s kind of like vitamin D … your body has a physical reaction to it,” she said. It doesn't matter if they are fresh or fake, especially when you can find some really good faux florals these days. “When you see florals and greenery and fresh flowers, it just makes you feel better,” she explained. She said you can even keep the vases you already have out. Just change the stems and florals to lighter, pastel colors and textures.

Switch to Lighter Textiles & Patterns

Spring is lighter and brighter, so Reynolds said it's the perfect time to switch out pillows, throws and accent chairs. “ If you're wanting to swap out little things like that ... It’s gonna make your space feel a lot brighter,” she noted.

Bunnies Don't Just Have to be for Easter

Reynolds said the mascot of Easter doesn't have to get put away after the holiday. Leave it up, even until summer! “I think the bunny … can last through all of spring,” she said. “I love that they come in neutrals now, so it doesn’t have to be quite so literal Easter." She said bunnies add to that whimsical, spring feeling we're trying to bring into our homes this time of year.

Refresh Your Porch

The first place Reynolds said to spruce up is the front porch. Your planters are probably dead, so it's a great time to give them a little attention. "I  gave up years ago putting real pots on my porch. They just die," she said. Instead, she puts a UV-resistant olive tree on her porch with a little bit of potting soil in the base to make it look more realistic. "It's something a little bit different than a pot or like a faux plant or something on your porch," she explained. "I love this because it adds some height to your porch." Add a spring wreath and a mat to give it the finishing touches.
