'Major' rockfall closes section of Zion National Park

SPRINGDALE, Washington County — A section of Zion National Park was closed Wednesday afternoon due to a "major" rockfall, according to park officials.

The Zion Canyon Visitors Bureau said the rockfall took place on the part of state Route 9 that runs through the park, also known as the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway. This area will remain closed until further notice.

The Utah Department of Transportation announced Thursday that the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive remains open to shuttles and lodge guests.
