PROVO — A 9-year-old boy died in an ATV accident Sunday, according to the Utah County Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Ray Ormond said the boy was riding an ATV with his stepfather when the utility vehicle crashed and rolled.
Details about where and how the crash happened were not immediately made available, other than it happened in Utah County and the accident left the child "mortally injured," despite wearing protective equipment, Ormond said.
The boy was flown to Primary Children's Hospital, where he died.
"Our team is still working on the case, preliminary information is leaning towards it being a very tragic accident," Ormond said.
