BIG WATER, Kane County — Two people are dead following a crash involving three vehicles on U.S. 89 in Kane County, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The crash happened Wednesday evening near the town of Big Water and led to the closure of the highway in both directions, the Utah Department of Transportation said in a social media post.
UHP Sgt. Mike Alexander confirmed the two fatalities but did not have further details regarding their identities.
Information about who caused the crash was also not revealed, but UHP suspects it may have been due to a driver who was trying to pass another car.
The highway closure resulted in traffic delays for several hours, forcing drivers to find alternate routes to navigate the area, according to UDOT.
UHP said the road had reopened by 8:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Alexander said the crash is under investigation.
