Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles encouraged all to continue strengthening their faith throughout their lives.He shared a story how he recently flew a flight simulator after several years of not flying. While he was still successful, he noted how much more difficult the actions were that once used to be second-nature to him.Similarly, practice and discipline is needed to keep up your skills with anything, including being a disciple of Christ.

Instead, it is something you should nourish everyday."The fire of yesterday's testimony can warm us for only so long. It needs constant nourishment to keep burning brightly," he said.Elder Uchtdorf went on to remind each person that they are a beloved child of God who has been given gifts in this life that we must share with others."You are a blessed being of light; the spirit child of an infinite God! And you bear within you a potential beyond your capacity to imagine," he said. "Your origin story is divine and so is your destiny. You left heaven to come here, but heaven has never left you!"

Elder Kelly R. Johnson, a general authority seventy, encouraged church members to reconcile their faith to Heavenly Father and make their faith unshaken to the Lord.

Reconciliation can also help heal relationships, soften hearts and strengthen our discipleship, bringing increased confidence before God.Elder Johnson concluded by inviting members to be reconciled to God through the Atonement of Jesus Christ."I testify that making and keeping covenants makes our connection to the Savior strong, thereby avoiding becoming ripe for destruction," he said.

Elder Brik V. Eyre — Know who you really are

Elder Brik V. Eyre of the Quorum of the Seventy taught that "our lives will fundamentally change if we better understand who we really are."Elder Eyre said, "When we feel like anyone is trying to label us by our weaknesses, we need to stand strong in the knowledge of who we truly are. We must seek validation vertically, not horizontally; and as we do, we too can boldly proclaim, 'I am a child of God.'"Elder Eyre shared words of Elder Patrick Kearon of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who taught: "Our father's beautiful plan, even his 'fabulous' plan, is designed to bring you home, not to keep you out. … God is in relentless pursuit of you."

Elder Ronald M. Barcellos — The Lord looketh on the heart

Elder Ronald M. Barcellos, a general authority seventy, spoke about bringing your heart closer to God and examining your intentions in your actions.He emphasized the importance of having a "broken heart and a contrite spirit" and reminded the congregation that the Lord looks upon our hearts, not the outward appearance."Our Heavenly Father desires more than mechanical acts of obedience and service from his children. He wants us to do those things with real intent, because we love him with all our hearts. He wants us to desire to become like him," he said.

Sister Tracy Y. Browning emphasized the joy of Primary music. She said that while she did not grow up in Primary, she has found great joy and value in the sacredness of the songs."Primary songs have carried a holy influence in my life and have lifted my soul, taught me eternal truth and drawn me nearer to the Savior and to his gospel," she said.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson — Blessed are the peacemakers

Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles called for people to receive the Savior's invitation to be peacemakers. Elder Stevenson highlighted three steps to becoming peacemakers.

"Today, peacemaking still begins in the most basic place."Elder Stevenson provided further counsel, saying "we are all born with divine inclinations toward kindness and compassion. The gospel of Jesus Christ nurtures and knits these divine traits including peacemaking, into our hearts blessing us in this life and the next."

President Dallin H. Oaks — Conference introduction

President Dallin H. Oaks, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, opened the conference with a brief tribute to church President Russell M. Nelson, who died on Sept. 27.President Oaks explained that the general conference will go on as President Nelson had planned, even though he is no longer here.As president of the quorum, President Oaks will be the closing speaker in the Sunday afternoon session in place of President Nelson, who typically would speak at that time.
