CEDAR CITY — The Bureau of Land Management has resumed its environmental assessment of a water supply project estimated to cost $280 million, which will serve over 60,000 residents in the Cedar Valley.

The Pine Valley Water Supply Project is a proposed 66-mile pipeline from Pine Valley, which would move water from Water Right Basin 14 to the Cedar Valley. The basin is located northwest of Cedar City, near the border between Iron and Beaver counties. According to the Central Iron County Water Conservancy District, the project will include 15 production wells, eight monitoring wells and a 200-acre solar field.

Last month, the district announced in a press release that it had launched the next phase of the project. It had requested that the BLM reinitiate the Environmental Impact Statement process.

"This pivotal step follows an extensive period of sustainability-focused study and planning, affirming the district's commitment to responsible, long-term water management," the release states.
