SALT LAKE CITY — A Friday night loss provided a minor shakeup in the top five this week, but it was hardly a blip on the radar.
The top five teams remained the same this week in the KSL.com Sports Top 20+1 rankings, with just Skyridge and Lone Peak trading places after the Falcons dropped a game on the road to Cherry Creek High, the top-ranked team from the state of Colorado.
So how did the rest of the rankings fall?
1. Corner Canyon (5-0)
Chargers QB Helaman Casuga had five touchdown passes — all to different players — in the first half en route to a 35-0 head start over Brighton. For good measure, Casuga added a sixth in the third quarter in a dominant 56-14 win at home.
2. Lone Peak (4-1)
Lone Peak moves up one spot this week, just barely edging out Skyridge at No. 2 following a 34-7 win over Farmington. The Phoenix managed one touchdown in the first quarter, before the Lone Peak defense shut Farmington out the rest of the way — and had two pick-six touchdowns of 30 and 50 yards.
3. Skyridge (4-1)
The Falcons suffered their first loss of the season on the road to the best team in the state of Colorado. Skyridge cut a double-digit deficit down to six late in the third quarter, but Cherry Creek pulled away in the fourth for a 51-28 win.
4. Ridgeline (5-0)
There's really no stopping Ridgeline this season. The Riverhawks have been dominant all season, but saved a 71-point performance on the road for Tooele. And if the scoring wasn't good enough, the defense pitched a shutout in a total smothering of the Buffaloes.
5. American Fork (5-0)
The Cavemen did most of their work in the first half with a 28-0 lead over Layton at the halftime breaks. The offense then scored two more times in the fourth quarter, and the defense never allowed a score.
6. Herriman (5-0)
Don't look now, but Herriman remains undefeated and is on the cusp of a potential spot in the top five after a losing season last year. In what has become a theme for the top teams, Herriman's defense didn't allow a score in a 40-0 win on the road over Bingham.
7. West (4-1)
We continue the defensive shutouts for the week with a 61-0 performance over Kearns. The offense put up 20 points apiece in the two middle quarters in an all-around dominant night.
8. Davis (4-1)
Darts QB Tradon Bessinger put on a show Friday night, throwing for six touchdowns in a 42-14 win over Olympus on their home field. One of his favorite targets was Bode Sparrow, who caught three of those touchdown passes.
9. Fremont (4-1)
At Clearfield, Fremont wasted little time putting points on the board in a dominant performance. The Silverwolves scored 49 points in the first half before calling it a night and adding just two more touchdowns in the second half.
10. Lehi (3-1)
Star running back Devaughn Eka kicked the night off with a 16-yard touchdown run, and then QB Cash Hollingshead found Eka and Legend Glasker for three more touchdowns en route to 42 unanswered points in a dominant win.
The remaining teams:
- 11 - Orem (3-2)
- 12 - Syracuse (4-1)
- 13 - Box Elder (5-0)
- 14 - Mountain Ridge (3-2)
- 15 - Crimson Cliffs (4-1)
- 16 - Morgan (4-1)
- 17 - Springville (4-1)
- 18 - Woods Cross (3-2)
- 19 - Westlake (4-1)
- 20 - Riverton (3-2)
Plus-1: West Field (4-1)
In just the school's second year of being open, West Field has had quite the turnaround. The Longhorns only had one win last season, but have started out the 2025 season with a 4-1 record and is one of the best teams in a crowded top of Region 5.
On Friday, West Field dominated region foe Bonneville with a 61-21 win on the road, with 40 of those points coming in the first half. Quarterback Easton Eilertson threw six touchdown passes — including a 75-yard TD pass, two 64-yard tosses and a 63-yarder.
The Longhorns have Box Elder and Fremont in their region, but there doesn't appear to be any signs of slowing down just yet.
