ST. GEORGE — Hundreds of people gathered Thursday evening at Vernon Worthen Park in St. George to honor the life and legacy of Turning Point USA founder and CEO Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, a conservative activist, was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem on Wednesday. Suspect Tyler Robinson, 22, is in custody and is reportedly from Washington County, according to a news conference Friday morning.

Thursday's memorial in St. George was quickly put together by Utah Tech University's former Turning Point USA president, Brooklyn Mead, with help from the current president, Utah Tech freshman Jordan Boopor.

Mead kicked off the event with a short speech encapsulating her view of Kirk.
