ST. GEORGE — The Washington County Sheriff's Office sent personnel out on two search and rescue operations in Zion National Park Thursday. Both cases involved people being overwhelmed by the day's intense heat.

One case reportedly involved a single middle-aged man, while the other was a group of 12 teenagers.

The first report occurred near the entrance to the Left Fork trailhead, also referred to as Subway, in Zion National Park. Washington County Sheriff Search-and-Rescue Sgt. Jacob Paul said the call came in at approximately 2:33 p.m.

"I think it was about half-a-mile northeast of Left Fork Trailhead," Paul said.

He added that the man needing assistance was estimated to be in his 40s.
