SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County Councilman Arlyn Bradshaw will resign to take a role with the county mayor's office, the county announced Friday.
Bradshaw, a Democrat, will conclude his 14-year tenure on the council effective Wednesday, according to a county press release, taking a position as associate deputy mayor of finance and administration for Salt Lake County.
"It has been an honor to serve the residents of District 1 for over 14 years on the County Council," Bradshaw said in a statement. "I'm proud of the work I have done on behalf of my LGBTQ community, individuals in need of substance use and mental health services and public health. I worked hard to make Salt Lake County a vibrant place to live and visit. While I will miss serving on the council, I am excited to continue to work for the people of Salt Lake County in the administration."
Bradshaw serves on several boards in the state and county, and Mayor Jenny Wilson praised the hire, saying: "Arlyn brings deep institutional knowledge, strategic insight and a longstanding commitment to public service."
The new role will include work on moving the county offices to the former Overstock building in Midvale and helping reconstruct the Salt Palace Convention Center, a portion of which the county recently sold to Smith Entertainment Group.
"I'm thrilled and honored to have Arlyn join our team," said Darrin Casper, deputy mayor of finance and administration. "His skill set fits perfectly with the work of our portfolio."
Democratic delegates will vote in a special election to fill Bradshaw's seat.
