Hiking is a great way to get outside and enjoy some fresh air in the summertime, but the high temperatures can make it much less appealing. Luckily, there's a way to get some exercise, enjoy the beautiful scenery and beat the heat at the same time: Hike to a waterfall! You'll be rewarded with spectacular views and a way to cool yourself off after all that hard work.
Utah Valley provides easy access to some of the coolest and most refreshing waterfalls around. And don't worry — most of them require minimal effort to reach. On a cautionary note, please keep in mind that all waterfalls can be treacherous, slippery and dangerous. Waterfall hikers are injured or killed every year in Utah. Use caution when exploring.
Here are seven good places to start.
Bridal Veil Falls
A classic Utah Valley favorite, Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon features a 607-foot drop and a paved trail that's more of a leisurely walk than a hike. It's a family-friendly destination with a great spot to dip your toes at the base of the falls.
"This spot can be quite busy, so we recommend going during the week or at off times to avoid huge crowds," Utah's Adventure Family advises.

Battle Creek Falls
Another easy-to-moderate hike above Pleasant Grove is the short trek to Battle Creek Falls, a hidden waterfall that drops 50 feet. The mist alone provides a nice reprieve from the summer heat, but you can also play in the water with your kids and dogs. Adrenaline junkies can even repel down the waterfall for an added thrill!
Stewart Falls
Stewart Falls, one of Sundance Resort's crown jewels, features a beautiful 200-foot double waterfall. The two-mile trek is manageable for most hikers, and the pools at the base are perfect for a cool dip.

Grotto Falls
Just a short hike along the Mount Nebo Scenic Byway, Grotto Falls is a hidden oasis with a cold, clear pool ideal for wading. It's a great spot for families, and the easy trail makes it accessible for hikers of all levels.
Timpanogos Falls
If you're not quite up to a full-day hike, Timpanogos Falls offers a beautiful stop along the way to the summit of Mount Timpanogos.
"The Timpanogos Falls hiking experience offers an ideal late summer adventure," Charlie Jensen writes for Explore Utah Valley. Whether you're a seasoned hiker seeking a moderate challenge or a nature enthusiast captivated by fall's beauty, this trail accommodates all preferences."
Fifth Water Waterfalls
The Fifth Water Waterfalls hike is the most challenging on this list but well worth the effort. Besides the stunning waterfalls, you'll find several hot spring soaking pools along the trail. To avoid the crowds, it's best to start early in the day.
