ST. GEORGE — A boulder reportedly the size of a small truck fell Thursday afternoon at the construction site of the entry to the Toquerville Bypass in Toquerville, Washington County. A LaVerkin resident was able to capture the moment on video.
The rockfall occurred about 3:40 p.m. at the LaVerkin entry to the under-construction Toquerville Bypass, a new roadway expected to open at the end of the year designed to divert park-bound traffic away from central Toquerville.
Washington County sheriff's deputies said, as it is a construction area closed to traffic anyway, there are no closures, and there were no injuries.
LaVerkin resident Tom Bennett filmed the moment that the rocks and boulder about the size of a small truck came down. A couple of smaller rocks are seen initially coming down, followed by a few more about 30 seconds later. Another half minute after that, another cascade of sand and rock begins to fall, followed by the boulder breaking free from the side of the cliff to Bennett's audible "whoa" on the video that was later posted to TikTok.
