IVINS — In 2007, a year after he joined what was then the Ivins Police Department in Washington County, Jaron Studley decided to fill out a form that sat on then-Chief Wade Carpenter's desk where officers could indicate the position they would be most excited to have with the department.

"And in my infinite wisdom, I decided to write the words 'chief of police' on the paper," Studley said.
